High School Students Gain Insight from Experienced AP Exam Scorer

Summit Christian Academy > Academics > High School Students Gain Insight from Experienced AP Exam Scorer

With AP exams underway, SCA students had the opportunity to learn valuable test-taking strategies from one of our own teachers, Mr. Brase.

Before joining SCA teaching 6th grade, Mr. Brase taught AP Government at BASIS and currently serves as an AP Exam scorer for College Board. Each summer, he spends a week evaluating student responses from across the country to score AP exams. Last summer alone, he scored 1,998 responses.

“The scoring process is a week or more of 8-hour days reading in table groups where we are given very specific scoring guidelines and are given frequent feedback,” Mr. Brase shared.

This week, Mr. Brase met with students in AP Human Geography and AP World History to provide practical techniques and insight into how AP exams are evaluated. His advice gave students a unique perspective on what graders are looking for and how they can maximize their success on exam day.

AP courses and exams can lead to valuable college credit opportunities, making preparation especially meaningful for students as they look ahead to their academic futures.

We are thankful for teachers like Mr. Brase at Summit, whose experience and skill sets equip students for success in the classroom and beyond.
