Praying for Our Athletes

Summit Christian Academy > Faith > Praying for Our Athletes

As our fall athletic season began, we saw something that caused our community to take notice: several of our student-athletes were facing injuries. With a football team preparing to take the field and athletes across multiple sports working hard to compete, the need for health, healing, and protection became especially clear.

Our Cross Country Coach, brought a simple challenge to our Head of School, Colonel MacLeod: we need to pray.

And our Summit community began to rally around that call.

Our Praying Parents lifted up our athletes on Wednesday morning. Our faculty and staff prayed together during staff meetings. Our coaches prayed and contended for the health and protection of the students entrusted to their care. Across our community, we began intentionally asking God to bring healing to those who were injured and strength and protection to our teams.

And we are grateful for the ways we have already seen God at work.

This Friday, we are excited to have a group of young men healthy and ready to take the field for Summit Football. After all the work that has gone into preparing for this season, seeing them step onto the field together is something worth celebrating and something we don’t take for granted.

We have seen encouraging moments on the volleyball court as well. Varsity player Faith MacLeod had been experiencing back spasms and was not expected to return for several more weeks. Instead, she was able to return to the court earlier than anticipated and help lead her team to victory.

Scripture gives us a beautiful name for the God we are calling upon: Jehovah Rapha, “The Lord who heals” (Exodus 15:26).

As our athletes continue competing this season, we invite our entire Summit community to keep praying. Pray for health, strength, and protection over every team. Pray for wisdom for our coaches and perseverance for our athletes. And pray that through every victory, setback, practice, and competition, our students would grow in their dependence on Christ.

Let’s keep contending in prayer for our athletes and declaring God’s protection and healing over them this season.

We are thankful for healthy bodies, restored athletes, and the opportunity to compete. Most of all, we are thankful that whatever this season brings, we serve Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals.
