What TEFA Means for You at Summit Christian Academy

Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, families at Summit Christian Academy will have access to a new state-funded program that can significantly reduce the cost of private education.

Under Senate Bill 2, eligible families will be able to receive an estimated $10,800 per student per year through the newly named Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFAs).

This program, overseen by the Texas Comptroller’s Office and administered by Odyssey, provides parents with direct access to funds that can be used for approved educational expenses such as tuition, textbooks, tutoring, and testing.

SCA Already Qualifies

Summit Christian Academy meets all state requirements to be an approved TEFA institution. That means SCA families will be eligible to apply and use these funds here, without any change to our programs, curriculum, or accreditation.

Highlights for SCA Families:

  • An Estimated $10,800/year in Tuition Support:
Families enrolling at SCA may receive up to $10,800 per student annually to help cover tuition and other approved educational expenses.
For reference, SCA’s highest tuition is around $14,000, so TEFA funding could cover approximately 70% of the total cost.
  • Simple Application Process
Applications will be handled through a secure online portal developed and managed by Odyssey, under the direction of the Texas Comptroller’s Office.

If program demand exceeds available funds, priority will be given to:

    • Students with disabilities

    • Lower-income families (up to 500% of the federal poverty level)

    • Siblings of current participants

What to Do Next:

  • Stay Informed: TEFA applications for the 2026–27 school year are expected to be open February 4th, 2026 through mid-March. SCA will continue to share updates and guidance as new information becomes available from Odyssey and the Comptroller’s Office.
  • Talk to Us: Our administration will be available to help families navigate the TEFA process and understand how this support can fit into your family’s financial planning.

  • Prepare to apply: SCA will encourage 100% of families to apply, regardless of income level, due to the likelihood that many of our current families could receive funds.

Bottom Line for SCA Families:

Senate Bill 2 and the new Texas Education Freedom Accounts represent a major step forward in making high-quality Christian education more affordable and accessible.
Whether you’re already part of the SCA community or considering enrollment, this program could reduce your out-of-pocket tuition by thousands of dollars, while keeping your child in a Christ-centered, academically excellent environment.
