This week in Secondary Chapel, Mr. Zambrano shared a powerful message through the story of Joseph, reminding students that while our circumstances may change, the God who holds our identity never does.
Throughout Joseph’s life, his clothing often reflected the season he was walking through. He wore the coat of many colors given to him by his father. Later, he would have been clothed as a trusted servant in Potiphar’s household. Then came the garments of a prisoner, followed eventually by the robes of authority as he was elevated to leadership in Egypt.
Each season looked drastically different from the one before it. Joseph experienced favor, betrayal, success, false accusation, imprisonment, and restoration. Yet through every high and every low, one thing remained constant: God was with Joseph.
Mr. Zambrano challenged students to recognize that same truth in their own lives. Friends may change. Relationships may change. Family circumstances may change. Success can come and go. The way others see us can shift in an instant. But none of those things were ever meant to define who we are.
Our identity is found in the unchanging love and faithfulness of God.
Joseph’s story also points us toward Jesus, reminding us that God is at work even in seasons that feel like rejection, suffering, or waiting. What looked like setback after setback in Joseph’s life was ultimately part of a much greater story of redemption.
The challenge for our students was simple but significant: Do not build your identity on circumstances that can change. Build it on the God who never does.
