Summit Christian Academy > Athletics > Summit Volleyball: Building a Legacy

As the new varsity volleyball season kicks off at Summit Christian Academy, excitement is in the air, and for good reason. The Eagles are led by passionate head coach Melissa Hinnant, a decorated athlete and experienced club coach who brings not only a deep love for the game, but a heart for mentorship and mission.

Coach Melissa’s journey began in Minneapolis, where she built a reputation as a standout defensive player, earning All State honors and setting school records. Since then, she’s coached at both club and rec levels, and led a national team to a top-10 finish this summer. Now entering her second year as Summit’s varsity coach, Coach Melissa is continuing to invest in the next generation of student-athletes, including her own daughters who play in the program.

What makes Summit’s volleyball program special is the intentionality built into every level. From elementary fundamentals, to intermediate development and varsity competition, it’s a true pipeline designed to grow skilled athletes and strong young women. This year’s varsity squad is young and energized, with no upperclassmen and several passionate newcomers.

“There are three things we can control in volleyball,” says Coach. “Our attitude, our effort, and our energy. That’s our focus this year: becoming masters of what we can control.” Inspired by Ephesians 6:10, this year’s theme is to “Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.”

When asked what stands out about the 2025 team’s culture, Coach Melissa says the girls support each other fiercely, on and off the court.

“They push and challenge one another in a way that lifts the whole team,” Coach says. “They’re young, but they’re determined. I’ve never seen a group more ready to face bigger, faster, stronger competition.”

Parents, students, and the Summit community have a big role to play this season. “We need YOU!” says Hinnant. “Come early, be loud, stay late. Let’s create an atmosphere where girls love to play and compete — not just this year, but for years to come.”

Summit Volleyball is building something powerful. Not just a team, but a legacy.

The Lady Eagles play their home opener against Divine Savior at 6:00pm on Tuesday, August 26th. Stay up to date with the Varsity Volleyball game schedule here.
