Summit Christian Academy > Events > SCA Shines at 2025 TAPPS Art Competition

The 2025 TAPPS Art Competition took place on March 25-26 in Waco, Texas. SCA students proudly showcased their artistic talents among the best in the state. As a top private Christian school, SCA helps students grow their God-given talents in the fine arts.

Middle and high school Fine Arts instructor, Mr. Ben Congdon and Fine Arts Director, Mrs. Ginger Lambert accompanied students Aidan Tapperson, and Jenny Howard. The students brought home impressive awards from this prestigious competition. This was especially exciting as this was SCA’s first year participating in this competition.

One of the highlights of the competition was the Seek and Sketch challenge. Participants had two hours to find an inspiring subject, sketch it, and return to the competition center. SCA students embraced the challenge, demonstrating creativity and skill under pressure.

While in Waco, the group also visited a museum and several fine arts galleries. These experiences gave them fresh inspiration from professional works and different artistic styles. This cultural exposure deepened their appreciation for the arts and reinforced the value of lifelong learning.

SCA earned an impressive fourth-place finish at the state level. Individually, Aidan Tapperson secured two first place wins in Communication Design for The Professor and 2D Mixed Media for To What End?, along with placing seventh in Black and White Drawing for Desperation.

Jenny Howard placed fourth in Printmaking with 3 Days and 3 Nights, fifth in Drawing Color with Legendary, sixth in both the Seek & Sketch competition and Communication Design with Relativity, and seventh in the On-Site competition.

Sizheng Zhao took fourth place in 2D Mixed Media for Under Threat. Rachel Murray received an honorable mention in Communication Design.

As a top-ranked private school with a strong fine arts program, SCA is committed to fostering students’ creativity while building a Christ-centered worldview.

The achievements of SCA students reflect their dedication to excellence and their ability to use artistic expression to communicate meaningful, faith-inspired messages.

At SCA, we believe that all talents are gifts from God, and our mission is to cultivate these abilities for His glory. As a Christian school, we provide students with the tools and opportunities to develop their skills while honoring God through their work.

This competition allowed our students to honor Him through creativity. They could let their light shine for others, acting as an example of Matthew 5:16.

Looking ahead, SCA plans to return next year with an even larger group of participants, continuing to build on this year’s success. We are excited to see how faith and artistry will continue to intersect and inspire the world for Christ.

Congratulations to all the students and teachers for their outstanding accomplishments!
