Last week, Summit Christian Academy’s ninth grade students traveled to Camp Tejas in Giddings for their annual Impact trip, centered on service, community-building, and living out their faith in everyday moments.
Impact Education Director, Mrs. G, knew the purpose of the trip was beyond just physical service. The goal was not only to complete projects, but to help students remain “on alert” for opportunities to personally bless Camp Tejas staff members and to pray with them for specific needs. This mindset encouraged students to see their service projects not just as work, but as a chance to connect with others and share Christ’s love in other ways.
During their time at Camp Tejas, students assisted with several work projects that included taking down Christmas lights, moving tables and chairs, and packing supplies following the camp’s annual Christmas at Tejas outreach event. As they worked, students were challenged to think intentionally about the families who had attended the Christmas event. Many of these families were seeking rest and renewal during a busy season, so students paused to pray for restoration and hope for those families.
After filling up four trailers with raked and bagged leaves, the freshmen were encouraged to approach Camp Tejas staff and interns to ask if there was anything they could pray for them about. For many students, this was a courageous “entry-level” challenge that showed them they could overcome fear and be obedient to the Lord’s leading.
What truly made the trip special was seeing students take this practice beyond the camp setting. During a stop at Buc-ee’s on the drive home, teachers witnessed students initiating prayer with employees on their own, bowing their heads to pray boldly in a public space.
This Impact trip was a powerful reminder of what makes Summit Christian Academy unique. We are a school that prepares and challenges students academically, while also equipping them for a lifetime of living on mission for Jesus Christ.
