The SCA Intermediate Soccer team delivered an unforgettable performance at the ACAA Tournament, turning early-week adversity into a championship victory.
Heading into the week as the #3 seed, the Eagles faced a tough start. They opened with a 3-1 loss to St. Helen’s, followed by a 5-0 defeat against the league’s top-ranked team, Grace Academy. Entering the ACAA Tournament Championship as the #5 seed, Summit embraced the underdog role.
Beginning tournament play on Thursday, the Eagles came out strong with a 12-0 victory over the Austin Royals. They quickly turned around to face St. Helen’s once again. In a back-and-forth match, Landon S. broke the tie, leading the Eagles to a hard-fought 2–1 win and a shot at redemption.
In what proved to be the most physical match of the season, Summit battled with Grace Academy, the same team that had defeated them just days earlier. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, Knox C. delivered the go-ahead goal, securing a 2-1 upset over the #1 seed.
The championship match was played against another tough opponent in St. Joseph’s Catholic, the #2 team in the league. In a physical and hard-fought game, the Eagles showed composure. Fifth grader Finley S. scored the lone goal of the match, sealing a 1-0 victory and securing the ACAA League Championship for Summit.
From early losses to a dominant tournament run, this team showed perseverance and determination. Congratulations, Eagles!
