Summit Christian Academy Tennis Team Finished Strong at State with Nine Players and #1 Regional Ranking

Summit Christian Academy (SCA) celebrated a major milestone this season as nine tennis players advanced to the state championships—a testament to the strength and growth of its exceptional program. A standout among private schools and a leader in Christian school athletics, SCA’s tennis team made waves across Texas.

The Eagles Boys’ Tennis Team clinched their third straight district championship this year, dominating competition in the TAPPS 2A South Region—one of only two districts in the Texas high school tennis system. Their success earned them the #1 ranking in the South Region, setting the stage for an exciting state tournament appearance.

This year’s state-bound roster included two boys singles players and two boys doubles teams, each of whom demonstrated the kind of skill, discipline, and sportsmanship that had come to define Summit Christian Academy athletics.

At the state tournament, the SCA Boys Team delivered a strong performance, finishing 6th overall out of 18 competing schools. Senior player Agent Disyabutra advanced to the quarterfinals in boys singles, placing him among the top eight players in the state—a significant achievement. The mixed doubles team of Lisa Coburn and Victor van Meer also had a standout showing, making it to the quarterfinals in their division and continuing SCA’s reputation for excellence.

On the girls’ side, Senior Amelia Tang continued to break barriers. The previous year, she had become the first female SCA tennis player to advance to state. Then, as a returning MVP and ranked #6 in the state, Amelia brought experience and a competitive edge to the team’s state hopes.

Head Coach Adam Waterman attributed the Eagles’ growing success to a blend of athlete dedication, experienced coaching, and strategic investment. “The growth we’ve seen over the last three years was the result of hard work from our players and consistent support from our coaching team. Coach Horne’s commitment to securing court time through rentals and the school’s investment in our program made a real difference,” he shared.

As several senior players prepare to graduate, the focus has already begun shifting to the future. SCA plans to build up its middle school tennis program, ensuring that younger athletes will receive the training and mentorship needed to continue the school’s legacy of excellence.

“Tennis is a legacy sport,” Coach Waterman emphasized. “When students commit to tennis at Summit Christian Academy, they’re investing in a future filled with opportunity—on and off the court.”
