Summit Christian Academy’s highest priority is to educate students from a biblical worldview. This is accomplished with a team of teachers who are strong in their Christian faith, equipped with Bible knowledge, and continue their education as required by the Association of Christian Schools International. While continuing education is a requirement, many teachers go even further by earning the designation of Colson Fellows. From the Colson Fellows website, “Most of our lives may look ordinary, but as C.S. Lewis reminds us, ‘There are no ordinary people.’ Not when we are each made in God’s Image for an eternal destiny and called to live an earthly mission that reveals His Kingdom.” Christians who elect to enroll in the Colson Fellowship program feel that calling deeply.
Colson Fellows from across the globe complete a rigorous course of study that begins each July and concludes with their commissioning in May of the following year. In this ten month program, candidates follow a daily curriculum that is carefully curated and updated each year, read 12-14 books, and attend two live webinars each month with leading Christian thinkers in which they are able to engage in a lively, free-flowing exchange of ideas. The Colson Fellows program requires participants to complete outside readings and coursework focused on Christian worldview, God’s design for culture and how to live in it. They study topics such as:
Educators receive a 50 percent enrollment discount from the Colson Fellows program. SCA then pays the balance of tuition for its faculty and staff members. Doing so is an expression of our commitment to develop strong leaders for Christ in the classroom who can in turn equip students in the faith and knowledge to face cultural challenges to Christian values.
Summit’s Colson Fellows:
Soon to be joining his colleagues, Doug Landers, High School Math teacher, is currently enrolled in the 2024-2025 cohort. We are also blessed to have an additional Colson Fellow on our Board, Vance Faulks.
These staff members have committed to utilizing the knowledge and skills gained through their coursework to implement change in their own communities. Whether their personal mission plan is aimed toward their teaching, their church or the local community at large, each person is uniquely positioned to bless and influence those around them.
