This week, Summit Christian Academy students Zakari Lamb, Boden Tapperson, and incoming freshman Jackson Lentz joined Mrs. Tapperson in the school garden to harvest potatoes, hot peppers, and rhubarb. While it may have looked like a simple gardening project, this moment held deeper meaning rooted in both faith and service.
When the garden was first planted, it was more than just a space for growing produce. Mrs. Tapperson created it as a place for students to grow character, discipline, and gratitude. Inspired by Proverbs 3:9, “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops,” the school committed from the start to giving the first and the best of every harvest to the Reveal Resource Center, a local ministry providing food and support to families in need.
This practice of giving our “firstfruits” is an act of worship. It’s a recognition that while we can plant seeds and tend the soil, it is ultimately the Lord who brings the growth. As Mrs. Tapperson says, “We always want to give back to those in need while giving glory to God for being our provider.”
The students who helped with this week’s harvest did more than just gather vegetables. They lived out their faith through action. By donating fresh produce to those in need, they embodied Christ’s love and provision in a tangible way.
Moments like these remind us of the bigger picture. At Summit Christian Academy, we’re not just teaching academic knowledge: we’re nurturing hearts that serve, lead, and reflect God’s truth. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or among rows of potato plants, we want every student to know the joy of honoring the Lord with what He has given us.
At Summit, we are grateful for students like Zakari, Boden, and Jackson, and for leaders like Mrs. Tapperson who help cultivate both crops and Christian character. May every harvest continue to be a testimony of God’s goodness and our response to it.
