Some of our secondary students recently had the unique opportunity to visit Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, thanks to the efforts of flight instructor and Summit parent Lieutenant Colonel Emily Locke. Working with multiple departments on her base, Ltc Locke helped make this unique experience possible.
Students were able to explore the world of Air Force flight training firsthand. They tried flight simulators, safety helmets and oxygen masks, and even practiced on the parachute training device.
College Guidance Counselor Mrs. Ten Brook also facilitated the field trip, noting that “it was so cool to hear [Ltc Locke] training the students while they were in the simulators. You can tell she’s very passionate about what she does.” She noted that the students were completely engaged, focusing on precision and following instructions carefully.
Beyond the hands-on activities, this visit gave students a deeper understanding of what it takes to train in the Air Force. Many left with a renewed respect for the dedication and skill required to keep our country safe. Experiences like this help our students appreciate the hard work of those serving in the military.
