The Secondary Learning Center, serving grades 6-12, provides a separate environment for students to come and work on classroom assignments. As a setting with typically less than five students, and a learning structure geared towards individually focused work, the Learning Center lends itself to a serene environment. Students that enroll in the SLC will receive additional appropriate assistance on assignments, and accommodations depending on their needs.
Erin Mwalwanda, the SLC Specialist, works with students based on their learning styles and differences. She is also able to assist students in developing their executive functioning skills, such as organization, assignment tracking, and study strategies.
The expectation of students enrolled in the SLC is that they attend regular class for instruction and assignments from their teachers, then they may go to the Learning Center, as needed, for additional assistance. Students also have the option to take quizzes and tests in the Learning Center, where they can receive appropriate accommodations.
In line with the custom setting, there are two levels of access to the SLC for students and their parents to consider. Students can either sign up for Level 1, which allows access to the SLC for up to two hours per week, or Level 2, which allows students as much access as needed per week.
Parents can contact Erin Mwalwanda, the Secondary Learning Center Specialist, for more information. Her direct email is emwalwanda@summiteagles.org.
