At Summit Christian Academy, we believe that preparation is key to success, especially when it comes to standardized testing. For secondary students, that means preparing them with tools and strategies for success on the Digital PSAT and SAT tests that will be offered on campus over the next two weeks.
Annual Testing Starts Early
Summit students begin their testing experience in 8th grade with the PSAT, which they take each year leading up to their junior year. This early exposure not only familiarizes them with the test format but also allows them to track their progress and growth over time. This thoughtful approach ensures that our students are prepared when it counts the most.
Expert Instruction with a Personal Touch
To prepare our juniors for the SAT, every student is enrolled in the Junior Seminar class, led by our incredible educators, Mr. Landers and Ms. Smith. Mr. Landers, our math guru, and Ms. Smith, our English expert, provide targeted instruction that hones the skills necessary for the test. From geometry and algebra to reading comprehension and grammar, our curriculum is designed to enhance students’ test-taking strategies and bolster their confidence. Many families outside of Summit invest hundreds of dollars in similar SAT prep programs; at Summit, we offer this essential preparation as part of our academic framework.
Understanding the Digital Shift
The PSAT and SAT transitioned to a digital format over the last year, introducing new features that require a different approach to test-taking. Here’s what our students can expect:
Online Testing, In-Person Experience: Students will take the tests online while still participating in a traditional testing environment at school.
Adaptive Testing: The digital format allows for an adaptive testing experience. Students will first tackle a mix of easy, medium, and difficult questions in the first module. Depending on their performance, the second module will adjust accordingly: excelling in the first module will present more challenging questions, while those who may need more support will see a greater proportion of easier questions. This adaptive approach personalizes the testing experience, catering to each student’s unique abilities.
Quick Turnaround on Scores: One of the advantages of the digital SAT is the swift feedback. Students can expect their scores back within 2-4 weeks, allowing them to understand their performance promptly.
Detailed Skill Breakdown: Along with their overall scores, students receive a breakdown of their performance in specific skill areas. This detailed analysis empowers them to identify strengths and areas for improvement, enabling targeted practice for future success.
A Pathway to Opportunities
Standardized tests play a crucial role in college admissions and scholarship opportunities, including the prestigious National Merit Scholar Program (NMSP). By providing early and continuous exposure to testing, along with expert instruction and a personalized learning experience, Summit Christian Academy ensures that our students are not just ready for the PSAT and SAT, but that they are set to excel.
As we look forward to another academic year filled with growth and achievement, we remain committed to empowering our students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful future. Here’s to the Summit students making strides toward their college dreams!
