At Learning Together Equestrian, a nonprofit organization led by Penni Bozadzis, the mission is to provide therapeutic horseback riding (hippotherapy) and educational programs to children and adults with cognitive and physical disabilities. Since 2005, Penni has been dedicated to using horses to help individuals grow in confidence, strength, and independence. With 12 students ranging in age from four to 39 years old, the program relies on volunteers to keep things running—whether assisting in classes, caring for animals, or maintaining the property.

Recently, under the leadership of Mrs. Ten Brook, National Honor Society (NHS) students had the privilege of serving at Learning Together Equestrian. Over two days, they devoted five hours of hard work, clearing brush, and moving a large goat pen—essential projects that support the organization’s mission.

On the first day, 12 students worked diligently to clear brush for a new horse training trail, creating a space where students can prepare for the upcoming Gold Stirrup Horse Show at Rodeo Austin. This special event, held on Sunday, March 16th, at the Rodeo Austin Show Barn on Decker Lane, is dedicated to individuals with disabilities. Therapeutic riding programs from across Texas will participate, and the event will conclude with an awards presentation. Friends and supporters are encouraged to come cheer on the riders, stop by the stalls, and say hello (More details here).

The impact of the NHS students’ work was felt immediately—just as they were leaving, they saw one of Penni’s students already using the newly cleared training area. The joy of witnessing the direct results of their efforts was a powerful reminder of Galatians 6:9, which encourages us to not grow weary in doing good because our efforts will bear fruit in due time.

On the second day, six students returned to take on another big job – relocating a massive goat pen. This provided the goats with access to fresh grazing areas while ensuring they had a cleaner, healthier living space. By stewarding the land and caring for the animals, the students reflected God’s command to nurture His creation.

The impact of their work did not go unnoticed. Penni Bozadzis shared her gratitude, saying:

“We really enjoyed having the NHS students help us out. I have gotten so many comments from families about how much was accomplished!”

Though the work was demanding, Mrs. Ten Brook led the NHS members with encouragement, guiding them as they served with joy and enthusiasm, knowing their efforts were part of something greater—helping others flourish and honoring God through service. Their dedication and teamwork will have lasting effects, not only on the animals but also on the students training for their big event.

This project was a powerful example of faith in action — serving others selflessly, working with excellence, and witnessing firsthand how small acts of obedience can make a significant impact. NHS members left knowing that through their work, they glorified God and helped fulfill the mission of Learning Together Equestrian, bringing encouragement and support to those in need.
