SOAR stands for “Sharpen, Overcome, Achieve, Rise.” At the SOAR Center, Natalie Lark provides specialized instruction in Kindergarten through Fifth grade in the areas of math, reading and dyslexia intervention.
The SOAR Center is dedicated to helping students achieve academic success by offering individualized instruction tailored to address the specific skills that students need to develop. These student needs are identified by classroom data or the NWEA’s MAP test results. By focusing on specific skills in reading, math, and dyslexia intervention, students receive small group instruction to master concepts that they have not previously mastered. Parents receive monthly communication on how their student is progressing in their skill development. With SOAR’s specialized support, students experience a sense of accomplishment and empowerment as they progress in their academic journey.
Dyslexia Intervention includes four 45-minute sessions a week for a total of 180 minutes a week. Instruction is in small groups, and students are placed in groups determined by skill level. Mrs. Lark has received training from Rawson Saunders Institute in Dyslexia Intervention. She spent the past two summers taking courses at the institute, equipping her to instruct students with dyslexia. She has completed both the introductory and advanced levels of BLS at Rawson Saunders. She is currently in her practicum, and is on the path to becoming a Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) by the end of the school year.
The ultimate goal of the SOAR program is to close any learning gaps that students may have so they no longer require intervention services. Some students have successfully exited the program after reaching their goals, while others may benefit from more long-term support due to learning differences. Small group instruction provides these students with the specialized instruction they need to flourish academically.
Students are eligible to participate in the SOAR program if they have an IEP, score below the 35% or by teacher recommendation.
