Last weekend, the SCA Cross Country team had the incredible opportunity to travel to Seaside, Oregon to compete in the Three Course Challenge, led by coaches Brian and Erika Henson.
The Three Course Challenge is a unique event held along the Pacific coast. High school athletes are assigned to run one of three distinct courses, and middle school competitors take on a demanding course of their own.
Bringing home medals were 6th grader Ava Bassil and 7th grader Bailey Murrell, while 7th grader Brailyn Murrell improved her time from this race a year ago by almost three minutes. Each and every member of the team worked hard and pushed through the challenging race conditions.
The trip also included some exciting stops in Oregon. The team explored Fort Clatsop, climbed the Astoria Column, visited the famous Goonies House, and spent time hiking and playing on the beach.
At Summit, every student has the opportunity to participate in athletics to share experiences like these, but most importantly, be mentored by coaches who care deeply about their growth in Christ. Coach Brian Henson shared, “Each of our team members deserve huge credit, as every course was both difficult and packed with other runners. We are so thankful to our faculty, staff, sponsors, and parents who made this event a success.”
We are proud of our Cross Country team for running with excellence and representing Summit with Christ-centered character.
