At Summit Christian Academy, athletics are more than just competition—they’re an opportunity to build character, discipline, and faith. Leading the charge in shaping young athletes is Mr. Mitch Friedman, our High School Bible teacher, Assistant Athletic Director, and Varsity Basketball Coach. His vision for the basketball program goes beyond wins and losses; he is committed to developing the whole athlete, emphasizing hard work, commitment, and perseverance throughout the entire year—not just during the playing season.
Coach Friedman’s philosophy is simple but powerful: grit beats potential. He believes that while natural ability is valuable, it is the athletes who show dedication, discipline, and a willingness to improve—starting with the foundational skills—who will truly succeed. His program challenges students to take responsibility for their growth, setting the expectation that improvement is a year-round process.
“Basketball isn’t just about showing up when the season starts,” Friedman emphasizes. “The best players are the ones who put in the effort consistently—working on fundamentals, getting stronger, and committing to excellence even when no one is watching.”
As both a Bible teacher and a coach, Mr. Friedman weaves faith into his coaching, teaching athletes that the lessons they learn on the court reflect Biblical principles—perseverance, teamwork, humility, and leadership. He encourages his players to see basketball as a platform to glorify God, developing not only their physical skills but also their character and faith.
Through off-season conditioning, skill-building, and leadership development, the program is designed to shape students into athletes who are not only skilled but also hardworking, disciplined, and Christ-centered.
Under Coach Friedman’s leadership, Summit Christian Academy’s basketball program is building a legacy of excellence—one founded on commitment, faith, and resilience. His vision is clear: success isn’t just about talent; it’s about the willingness to put in the work, develop a strong foundation, and trust the process.
With his guidance, SCA’s student-athletes are learning that true champions aren’t just made during the season—they’re built every single day.
