This week, our Environmental Science and AP Biology classes welcomed guest speaker Jaime Tanner, founder and CEO of Simple Sparrow Farm in Hutto, Texas. Jaime has been developing a trauma-informed care farm model grounded in Judeo-Christian theology since 2017, and her approach has led to incredible results for countless individuals.
Simple Sparrow Care Farm teaches people of all ages and abilities to learn, grow, and heal through tending to animals and land. In the process, Simple Sparrow also teaches people to better care for themselves and others. As Jaime emphasizes, “We get better at things we practice. So if we practice care, we get better at caring.”
This is Jaime’s fourth year speaking with Summit students. Each year, she has expertly connected spiritual life, brain science, and relational growth. She shared her expertise in topics like Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, brain anatomy, neuropathways, and biblical principles that show how God wired us for relationship and care. Philippians 4:8-9 was highlighted as a tool for navigating times of stress.
Summit is proud of the special connections and opportunities our students have to learn from outside experts, growing not just academically but spiritually and emotionally.
