When Jamie Coblentz, known to her students as Ms. Cobie, stepped on stage as “Salt Shaker #2” in a third-grade production of Beauty & the Beast, she had no idea that one small role would ignite a lifelong passion for theatre. Since then, she has performed in nearly 100 productions, earned a bachelor’s degree in Theatre and Performing Arts from Grand Canyon University, trained at the Seattle Repertory Theatre, and directed at professional stages like Silent House Theatre Company in Waco. She also serves as the chairwoman of the Spotlight Season at Waco Civic Theatre.
Ms. Cobie says she’s right where she’s meant to be: Summit Christian Academy. “I wholeheartedly believe the Lord brought me to SCA,” she says. “This is my dream school and I am beyond blessed to be here.”
To Coblentz, Summit’s theatre program is more than just a stage, it’s a community. Students not only act, but also serve as designers, choreographers, and assistant directors. The program thrives on the belief that the theater can be a platform for purpose.
Each production begins with prayer, asking God for confidence and peace. “He is the cornerstone of our theatre and the rock on which we stand,” Ms. Cobie says. Productions are selected not just for entertainment value, but for their ability to inspire, teach, and glorify God.
The results are powerful. “I’ve seen students grow from shy and insecure into confident leaders,” she says. “Our older students mentor the younger ones, setting a standard both on and off the stage.”
Above all, Ms. Cobie hopes that every student who steps into Summit’s theatre program leaves with a deeper sense of purpose. “I want them to know they have a voice—and that their passion can make a real difference.”
This year, audiences can look forward to two exciting productions:
Fall Play: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
Spring Musical: The Little Mermaid
