Summit Christian Academy’s production of Christmas Carol: A New Play was a captivating retelling of the beloved Charles Dickens classic, lovingly crafted by the school’s own Director of Theatre Arts, Mrs. Jamie Coblentz. This faithful and imaginative adaptation brought to life the transformative journey of Ebenezer Scrooge, played with depth and authenticity by Connor Manske.
The talented Summit Theatre Company High School cast brought heart and soul to their roles, creating a memorable and emotional performance. JP Sparling portrayed the kind-hearted Bob Cratchit, with Mateo Haugen as the endearing Tiny Tim and Katie Brunson as the nurturing Mrs. Cratchit. Sarah Fitzpatrick and Ashley Burnett shone as Beatrice and Belinda Cratchit, adding warmth to the Cratchit family. Marcus Mendoza delivered a haunting performance as Jacob Marley, while Wesley Hicks portrayed both the young Ebenezer and Ebenezer’s nephew, Matthew, with conviction.
The supporting cast added depth and vibrancy to the show. Madison Lyons gave an engaging performance as Charlotte Doyle, and Ronnie Armijo brought humor and grit as Old Joe and Charles. Madison McGirr illuminated the stage as the ethereal Ghost of Christmas Past, while McKenna Carter and Jaden Bibler embodied the Ghosts of Christmas Present with energy and flair. Chelsea Scardino, Josh Faulks, Jared Dixon, and Mia Allen served as narrators, skillfully guiding the audience through the story with clarity and emotion.
Kori Kirk brought grace to the roles of Belle Laneri and Florence, while Faith Mac Leod and Jaden Bibler charmed as Mrs. and Mr. Fezziwig. Annabelle Sherbo and Joel Faulks added humor and spirit as Jolly Gentle #1 and #2, and Trevor Creekmore embodied the cheerful Fred Doyle with charm.
Behind the scenes, the dedicated stage crew brought the production to life with seamless execution. Landon Millican excelled as Stage Manager, ensuring every cue and transition went off without a hitch. Joaquin Henson and Brody Bibler served as diligent Assistant Stage Managers, while Madison McGirr doubled as Assistant Costume Designer, showcasing her creativity and attention to detail.
This production would not have been possible without the incredible support of Mrs. Coblentz’s mother, Becky Coblentz, who served as Tech Director, and Mrs. Coblentz’s dear friends, Jessie Doyle, who captured the magic as the production’s photographer, and Jacob Goldstein, who handled the lighting with precision and artistry. Traveling all the way from Waco, their dedication and expertise were instrumental in bringing this unforgettable production to life.
Mrs. Coblentz’s leadership and enthusiasm for theater have become contagious, energizing not only the student body but also parents and the entire SCA community. Special thanks also went to Mr. Zambrano for his exceptional work running sound throughout the week, ensuring every line and note was heard with clarity—even from the “nosebleed” section of the bleachers!
The production benefited from the invaluable contributions of Mrs. G, SCA’s Fine Arts Director, whose deep experience and wisdom added richness and polish to the entire show. And as always, heartfelt gratitude went to Mr. Mike Millard and Ms. Bev Ott for their diligent efforts to ensure the facility was ready to support this memorable performance. Mr. Millard even stepped in to add critical safety features to the stage, exemplifying the teamwork and dedication that made events like this possible.
From the eerie yet enlightening visits of the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come to the triumphant joy of Scrooge’s redemption, the performance delivered a poignant reminder of the power of generosity and kindness. The high school cast and crew showcased incredible talent and dedication, creating a professional and heartfelt experience.
Looking ahead, the Summit Theatre Company is thrilled to announce their spring production of Newsies, a vibrant musical featuring students from 5th through 12th grades. Performances are scheduled for March 26–29, promising another unforgettable experience for the entire SCA community.
