This fall, Summit Christian Academy students participated in a series of benchmark assessments designed to evaluate their current academic standing and set expectations for future growth. Elementary students completed the NWEA MAP Growth test, while eighth through eleventh graders tackled the PSAT, generating a wealth of valuable data that provides insight into their progress and readiness for the challenges ahead.
Elementary students continue to excel academically, as evidenced by their performance on the NWEA MAP Growth tests. These results demonstrate that SCA students are not only thriving in the classroom but also consistently surpassing national averages across multiple subject areas. In Math, SCA students scored an average of 4.7 points above the national benchmark, while their Reading scores were 8.2 points higher. Additionally, in Language Usage, SCA students outperformed their peers by 7.9 points. The consistently higher scores are showcasing the students’ comprehensive academic strength.
The NWEA MAP Growth tests use a RIT score to measure a student’s academic development over time. Unlike percentile rankings, which compare students to others in their age group, RIT scores provide an individualized measure of growth. This unique metric enables educators and parents to track progress much like charting height on a growth chart, offering a clearer understanding of a student’s trajectory over time.
These achievements hold significant implications for college readiness. The SAT College Readiness Benchmarks, which correlate MAP Growth scores with future SAT performance, indicate that students who are “on track” are likely to achieve scores of 480 or higher in Reading and 530 or higher in Math on the SAT. Such results are aligned with standards for college success, confirming that SCA’s academic program effectively prepares students for the challenges ahead.
Summit Christian Academy continues to set the same standard for academic excellence in middle and high school, as demonstrated by the outstanding performance of its students on the PSAT. The PSAT serves as an important preparatory milestone for the SAT, providing students and educators with critical insights into college readiness. With a score range of 320-1520, the PSAT evaluates Reading, Writing, and Math skills, offering a comprehensive measure of academic proficiency.
Among 8th graders, every single student met or exceeded the reading benchmark, underscoring the effectiveness of SCA’s early academic preparation. Similarly, more than 90% of 10th and 11th graders reached or surpassed the reading benchmark, reflecting consistent achievement across grade levels. When compared to broader averages, SCA students significantly outperformed their peers. On average, they scored 200 points higher than students across Texas and 100 points above the national average, a testament to the rigor and quality of the school’s curriculum. Notably, the majority of the top 10 scorers among students in grades 8 through 10 have been at SCA for more than three years, illustrating the long-term benefits of the school’s academic programs and supportive environment.
SCA’s remarkable PSAT results affirm the school’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and preparing students for future success. These results demonstrate that SCA students consistently exceed expectations, reflecting the strength of our curriculum, dedicated faculty, and supportive learning environment. Committed to fostering academic growth and preparing students for the future, SCA equips its learners not just for tests, but for life. By exceeding benchmarks and building a foundation for college readiness, SCA students are well-equipped to meet the challenges of higher education and beyond.
