Building Community, Strengthening Faith at Back to School Retreats

Summit Christian Academy > Faith > Building Community, Strengthening Faith at Back to School Retreats

The start of a new school year at Summit Christian Academy always begins with one of our most meaningful traditions, Back to School Impact Retreats. These retreats give our students an opportunity to step away from routine to focus on spiritual growth as a community. The 2025 theme, “The Image of God”, came from Colossians 1:15.

This year’s retreats were held at Camp Tejas in Giddings, Texas. Students and teachers spent time worshiping and studying scripture together, but they also had plenty of fun. From team-building activities to rock climbing and kayaking, every student had the chance to build memories with their peers.

Our College Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Ten Brook, reflected on her time at retreat: “I was inspired to see how thoughtful they were about their class verses. The freshman class specifically wants to be remembered as kind, respectful leaders.”

For Mrs. G, the most powerful part of the retreat was seeing the fruit of teachers’ investment in students: “Already we have students initiating Bible studies on their own and asking how they can share the gospel at lunchtime.”

Colonel Mac Leod also shared his perspective: “These retreats are important for establishing a strong social foundation for the students. I also believe it is a way to get them away from their normal routines, so the Lord has time to interact and engage with them.”

The retreats also marked an exciting announcement for our seniors: their 2025 Impact Trip destination will be Romania! At Summit, Impact Education challenges and equips students to become servant leaders who will impact their world for Jesus Christ. The Back to School Retreat is one of the tools we use to accomplish this mission, and every year we see God do incredible things through it.

We’re excited for the year ahead, trusting that the seeds planted at retreat will continue to grow in the lives of our students.
