Get To Know Mrs. A

“I enjoy spending time with my family and being outside in nature; preferably both. I enjoy running, hiking, walking, kayaking, and swimming. My favorite thing to do is find new places to explore with my husband. I also love spending time with my nieces and nephews and watching them grow. I hope to have kids of my own some day. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching documentaries, cooking, researching, and volunteering.

The Lord rescued me seven years ago and that faith has changed my life forever. I immediately felt a calling to help others and started volunteering at church in the children’s ministry. I never thought I was patient enough to work with kids, but I found a joy that I couldn’t explain. I went back to school to get my Masters in Teaching in Special Education and chose Point Loma Nazarene University so I could get a private, Christian education. While going to school, I was a substitute teacher and it was then I fell in love with working with students with learning and behavior challenges.

During school, I volunteered with Miracle139 International, a non-profit, Christian organization that helped equip teachers around the world on how to work with students with disabilities. I traveled with them to Paraguay and trained special education teachers, visited schools in need, and did missionary work at the local orphanage. I then did my internship at a private school for students with severe behavioral challenges, teaching a small class of middle school boys. Afterwards, I worked at a public school in San Diego with students with mild/moderate disabilities for four years. I continued to volunteer at church in the children’s ministry, teaching the K-2 class and Vacation Bible School, and also at the local food bank.

God has given me many gifts, including patience, so that I can show his love to others. I have a strong desire to use my gifts to make an impact in the lives of children and can’t wait to see what God has in store for me at Summit Christian Academy!”
