How can you call us good? We did what had to be done.

The 11th grade spent most of the day in the Holocaust Memorial Museum. We had the privilege to hear a first person presentation. Holocaust survivor Irene Weiss shared her personal story of being deported to
Auschwitz-Birkenau along with her sister. The rest of her family lost their lives. Afterward we spent the afternoon going from floor to floor seeing the devastation of a regime that dehumanized people created in God’s image. As one student reflected on part of Irene’s story, “All the people in that prison, were chosen by one guy with a stick, even if you were alive, you were not a name but a number.”

Just a few of the thoughts shared from our evening debrief:

The pile of shoes and the lives they represented. The picture of the hair they shaved off of everyone. Learning that the Nazi’s made some family members carry thier own loved ones out of the gas chambers to their graves, they didn’t just try to exterminate all the Jews  but the Nazi’s made the experience as humiliating as possible.

Thursday morning early we take the boat up the Potomac to Mount Vernon. It is an amazing experience. Thank you for praying for us. Please continue to pray as we have prayer walking, Capitol tour, war memorials and visiting the Smithsonians.

I pray we we always be a people that will be like the whole town in Southern France that saved over 5,000 people’s lives. When people tried to hail them as heroes and honor them their reply was “How can you call us good? We did what had to be done.”

When Irene was finished our class got to go on the stage and take a picture with her she challenged the students “You must never give up your belief in God. no matter what anyone does. It is your foundation.”

Micah 6:8
He has told you, O man, what is good, and what the Lord really wants from you: He wants you to carry out justice, to love faithfulness, and to live obediently before your God.

May we be people that walk out Micah 6:8
