Today our class was given the honor to lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It has been a few years since Summit was given the opportunity to present the wreath. We were so thrilled we got the opportunity and how we had to do the final part of choosing which two of the four would actually helping place the wreath on the stand. Summit had the hard task of choosing the four students that would walk down onto the Guard’s area. This morning we had the four students share again and the three leaders labored over lunch having to choose the final two. These two students would actually place the wreath. The students did an amazing job which made it hard to narrow down to the two.
What a beautiful ceremony with amazing examples of honor, commitment.
By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 1 John 3:16
During debrief tonight, it was evident that the day at Arlington impacted each of us. There will be many different stories to tell but the common themes of debrief was amazement at the dedication of the soldiers of the Old Guard, tombstones for as far as you could see representing those who gave the ultimate sacrifice … for freedom … mine and yours!
Tomorrow we go to the Holocaust Museum. Pray that our student’s hearts are open to be challenged and changed.
