Impact Education
“From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’” (Acts 17:26-28a)

Summit’s Impact Education program is a vital part of its educational philosophy and lies at the core of Summit’s mission. Impact Education is realized primarily through training in missions that runs throughout the school from the youngest pre-schooler to the most mature Senior. In its missions training, Summit strives to:

• Teach by example that missions ("reaching out") is a lifestyle God desires for all of us
• Encourage students to "reach out” to others by serving in their homes and communities; among the hurting, the lonely, and the needy; by studying God's Word; and following Christ's example
• Teach students to pray for the people they serve and to learn through prayer what is on God's heart
• Introduce students to the exciting ways God's people are "reaching out" in their communities and around the world
• Create an environment where the students, in gratitude for what Christ has done for them, desire to see others come to know Christ as their Savior
• Help students learn about other countries, cultures, and environments in which missionaries serve
• Partner with other missions ministries on an ongoing basis – building relationships with them and providing opportunities for students to interact with missionaries on and away from their mission fields
• Incorporate Summit staff members and parents into mission outreaches
• Present missions as a career, providing opportunities for students to recognize and answer the call to career missions.

Music
Summit Christian Academy bases its music education program on the Christian philosophy that God gave music to man as a gift. Students learn how to use music for praise, worship, fellowship, and communication with our Lord. Using a variety of tools, students also learn music skills that include listening, sight-reading, vocal technique, performance skills, and music history and appreciation. In addition, students learn about orchestral instruments and have opportunities for competition through ACSI.

Band
Instrumental music instruction at Summit begins in 6th Grade. Students who elect to participate in Band go through an instrument selection process with the band teacher to determine what instruments are most compatible with their physical characteristics. The students’ families purchase instruments with guidance from the band teacher in preparation for the start of school in August.

Beginning Band students:

• Are taught with no assumption of prior music instruction
• Meet five days per week for 45 minutes
• Play woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments
• Practice regularly at home
• Perform at Christmas and Spring Concerts
• Participate in ACSI Music Festival as soloists and as an ensemble
• Do a community service event such as playing for a nursing home

Students who have completed Beginning Band and are in grades 7–12 make up the Symphonic Band. Summit challenges these students to develop their character and musicianship through a variety of musical experiences. Symphonic Band students:

• Have prior band experience*
• Are in grades 7 –12
• Meet 5 days per week
• Practice regularly at home
• Perform at Christmas and Spring Concerts
• Participate in ACSI Music Festival as Large Ensemble
• Are encouraged to participate in Solo and Ensemble contest
• Are encouraged to participate in ATSSB All-Region Band auditions
• Do community service events such as playing for the National Day of Prayer service at the City of Cedar Park City Hall
• Perform at occasional pep rallies, chapel services, ball games, and school-related events
• Perform at SCA commencement in May
• Enjoy band social events and fun day-trip in May

*Students in grades 7-12 who have no prior instrumental instruction may arrange to meet with the band teacher to discuss membership.

High School Spanish
The High School Spanish curriculum develops within the students an extensive vocabulary that will enable them to carry on daily conversations in Spanish. The students learn by listening to taped conversations and by conversing amongst themselves. The students do research on different Spanish-speaking countries to learn about their customs, culture, and traditions. Students also take field trips so they can practice what they have learned.

Art
A primary objective of Summit’s Art program is to provide an atmosphere where creative learning can flourish. The Art program introduces students of all ages to the skills, techniques, and methods of creating art through a wide assortment of media including watercolors, acrylics, pastels, graphite, charcoal, and clay. Art History serves as a backdrop to every unit, with greater emphasis occurring in the upper grades. Summit seeks to maximize each student’s God-given creativity while engendering a positive attitude toward learning and an appreciation of truth, goodness, and beauty.
